The BIM Institute has evolved to include BIM educational activities, owing to the growing knowledge needs of BIM standards in the built enviroment. The key objective to promoting BIM upskilling at partnered events such as Building Smart Summit 2017 (22 & 23 February 2017) the ACE/TCE Construction Expo ( 23 & 24 May 2017) and Cape Construction Expo(10-11 August 2017) will be to upskill delegates in BIM methodologies and to optimise the effectiveness of processes and workflows on a BIM project.
A key tenet to the BIM BAM BOOM Workshops 2017, two day events held in Durban, JHB and Cape Town, is for professionals to become familiar with BIM protocols regardless of their profession while gaining knowledge exchange between, design professionals, contractors and asset managers in the built environment which will hopefully assist in closing the knowledge gap that exists between us and other first world countries. More specifically the BIM BAM BOOM workshop starting in February 2017 in Durban is collocated with the Smart Building Summit and KZN Construction expo, giving delegates free access to all three events under one roof.
The BIM workshop will provide a special platform to educate industry professionals and other key decision makers on implementing international BIM standards and processes on projects in Africa. This will also allow members to engage and understand templates (ie. BIM Execution Plan) that are used globally when executing a BIM project. The aim with these events is to identify an opportunity which speaks to all and starts sowing the seed in delivering BIM processes on projects in Africa. The final overall deliverable is to also ensure opportunities are developed locally and internationally for professionals within our industry.
